If you find yourself asking where to find a unique place to stay in southwest Nebraska, we’ve got just what you’re looking for. The Balcony House Bed and Breakfast in Imperial is the perfect destination when you’re spending time at the nearby Enders Lake Recreation Area, hunting in the area, or simply passing through.
Located in the heart of Imperial, Nebraska, the Balcony House has a history that stretches back all the way to the 19th century.
This lovely house started its life in the 1880s as the town's school. In the early 1920s, the building was moved to its current location on Court St. The new owner constructed a two-story addition on the north side and added the distinctive wraparound enclosed balcony.
Over the years, the building changed hands and purposes several times.
In the 1920s, the Balcony House was a popular tourist resort catering to highway travelers. It was a hopping place and regularly hosted live music and special events. The resort closed during the Great Depression; later, the building was used as apartments, a boarding house, and dormitories. Sadly, it was abandoned in the 1980s.
