All-you-can-eat buffets have been a favorite of picky eaters and bargain shoppers alike for decades. There you can choose exactly what you want and how much, and even make supplementary trips back up to the food line for extra helpings. We’ve got quite a few of them all around Nebraska, but there’s one in Scottsbluff that will have you lining up for seconds, thirds, and maybe even a couple of desserts, too.
Part of what makes The Flight Deck so remarkable is its location. You have to actually go inside the Western Nebraska Regional Airport to get to it (and you don't need a boarding pass to get in!). It may seem like an odd place to send you for a great meal, but trust us - it's unlike any other airport dining experience you've had.
You'll need to come at lunchtime during the week if you want to experience spreads like this one, which includes fried potatoes, BBQ ribs, baked beans, fried rice, and chicken stir fry.
Or how about this? Herb chicken, salisbury steak, twice baked potatoes and green beans - that sounds like heaven on a plate (or several plates), to be honest.
This Mexican buffet looks so much tastier than the stuff you'd usually grab in the drive-thru lane for lunch, doesn't it? Take a little trip out to the airport instead and the daily lunch buffet, including the soup and salad bar, is just $10.
The offerings on the lunch buffet rotate regularly, so chances are you'll encounter new offerings every time you visit. From a delightful Italian buffet to good old down-home meats and potatoes, there's bound to be something you love.
Come in on the weekend, though, and you're in for a pretty exceptional treat. The Saturday breakfast buffet is just $8 and includes eggs, potatoes, breakfast meats, and biscuits, among other items.
And Sunday brunch is The Flight Deck's real time to shine. For $16, the brunch buffet includes scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, bacon, sausage, biscuits with gravy, ham, roast beef, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, veggies, full soup and salad bar, and - if you can manage to still have room after all of that - a dessert table with even more yummies.
Special dinner buffets are served often, and they do not disappoint. As of the time of publication, the next special layout is a German all-you-can-eat buffet on July 21, 2017 from 5 to 8 pm.
If you don't get there in time for a lunch buffet or if you just prefer to avoid the all-you-can-eat scene, you can always order from the regular menu. There's a variety of burgers, sandwiches, and salads for lunch. Dinner choices include steaks, chicken, and fish selections. On Fridays and Saturdays you can partake in the restaurant's delectable Surf & Turf.
You might want to go ahead and make The Flight Deck your regular Saturday night dinner place, in fact. That's when you'll be able to order the Cajun boil. While it's not exactly a buffet, it's definitely an experience that you'll remember - and it'll fill you right up.
A Cajun boil (or Lowcountry boil) has shrimp, crawfish, sausage, potatoes, corn on the cob, clams, and crab legs all boiled up together. It's then dumped onto your paper-covered table and you eat it with your hands (or utensils, if you insist). It's definitely not a meal for the prim and proper, and you'll want a beer or two to wash it down.
Whether you’re there for the all-you-can-eat buffet or want to experience the crazy deliciousness of a Cajun boil, the home-cooked food at this mom & pop restaurant is always delicious.
