Summer gets a late start in Montana, but once it arrives, it’s glorious. Our beautiful swimming holes span the state, but one of the best spots to take a swim happens to be located in the northwest corner in the underdeveloped (and quiet) Yaak Valley.

The Yaak River is a tributary of the Kootenai River, running down from southeast British Columbia into Lincoln County.

Part of the river has Class IV-V whitewater rapids, but part of it is perfectly calm.
Technically, there are several places in the river that are great for swimming... but the best spot is near the Yaak River Falls Campground.

From Kalispell, you'll take RT 2 west through Libby and Troy. From Troy, you'll continue west for a few miles until you turn right on RT 508. The swimming hole is located nearby.
