Wade In The Refreshing Waters On The Scenic Beach At Lake Elmo In Montana
Montana may not have ocean beaches, but we happen to think our freshwater beaches are just as beautiful. And if you live in Eastern Montana, you probably already know that it doesn’t get much better than spending a warm summer day at Lake Elmo State Park. From boating to birdwatching to good old-fashioned lakeside lounging, the park has plenty to offer — and you can even go for a swim.

The park is for day use only, but it's open from 8 a.m. until dusk.

The lake spans 64 acres, and the water is clean and inviting. It was originally called Holling Lake and was developed as an irrigation holding pond for the Billings Bench Water Association.

Of course, you'll never mistake this place for the ocean, but this small sandy beach is still a great place to hang out. While the walking trails, picnic areas, and dog park are all popular, the three little beaches are where the locals like to hang out.

If you'd like to avoid the crowds, try going during the week or early in the day.

Getting your feet wet feels so refreshing on a hot summer day.

You can also fish, paddleboard, or go boating, although only non-motorized boats are allowed.

It's easy to maintain a safe distance from others here while still enjoying a beautiful day in nature.
Have you been to Lake Elmo lately? Good news — there’s still plenty of summer left to enjoy it.
