The Yodeler Motel started out as an apartment building in 1909.

Daniel O'Shea was the original owner, and the tenants were primarily European immigrants who worked in the Rocky Fork Coal Company's nearby East Bench Mine.
After the mines closed in the 1920s, most of the apartment residents stuck around to help build the Beartooth Highway.
