If Montana had an official food, it would most certainly be steak. And while you’ll find plenty of places to enjoy this all-American all over the Treasure State, it seems as if the best of the best can be found in our small towns. This sometimes requires a bit of a drive, but it’s well worth it.
These are just a few of our most beloved small-town steakhouses every Montanan should try.
1. Marysville House, 153 W Main St., Marysville
Once the site of the Great Northern Railroad Station, this historic building is now a beloved steakhouse. They're open Wednesday - Sunday, and it's worth the trek.
2. Land of Magic, 11060 Front St., Logan
The steaks at this family-owned eatery are certainly magical, as the name implies. But it's the twice baked potatoes that will keep you coming back for more.
3. Babb Bar Cattle Baron Supper Club, 3990 Us Hwy 89, Babb
This rustic steakhouse opened in 1986, offering a nice, relaxing space to enjoy a hearty meal. In 2009, Maxim awarded it Fastest Disappearing Steak.
4. The Grizzly Bar, 1 Main St., Roscoe
Roscoe has a population of 15, so it's safe to say there's not much to it. But it does have the iconic Grizzly Bar & Grill, which has been a beloved local favorite for decades.
Note: Grizzly Bar is open seasonally, so check ahead before planning a visit!
5. Frontier Bar and Supper Club, 28904 US Highway 2, Dunkirk
Don't be fooled by the casual appearance of Frontier Bar & Supper Club. This might be a laid back setting, but the dining experience is first class.
6. Beef N Bone Steakhouse, 19 Ulm North Frontage Rd., Ulm
This little steakhouse will steal your heart. Beef N Bone serves Montana-grown meat at reasonable prices in a charming setting.
7. Lindey's Prime Steak House, 3129 Montana 83, Seeley Lake
If you've ever vacationed in Seeley Lake, you've probably eaten at this locally famous steakhouse. And if you haven't, it's well worth making the trip to try it.
8. Lolo Creek Steakhouse, 6600 US HWY 12 W.,
Lolo
For almost 30 years, Montanans from all walks of life have enjoyed this top notch steakhouse. Dining here is an iconic Treasure State experience.
9. Smokin' Pup Steakhouse, 114 N. Main St., Darby
Known for their award-winning BBQ, Smokin' Pup also serves steaks to die for. Their BBQ food truck serves tasty food all over the Bitterroot, but nothing beats a meal at their brick-and-mortar location.
10. Sir Scott's Oasis, 204 W. Main St., Manhattan
EDITOR'S NOTE: Unfortunately, Sir Scott's Oasis has permanently closed its doors. It would be impossible to have a list of small town steakhouses without including this gem. Sir Scott's Oasis has received national praise, and the steaks are as savory as ever.
There’s nothing quite like a hearty steak dinner. And if you’re a local history buff, you’ll love dining at the Jersey Lily .
