Some people might think you have to live in a big city to enjoy a lively existence. Those people are wrong. From family-friendly parades and events to live music and welcoming bars, you’ll find some of the biggest parties in our smaller towns. Visit one of these spots and you’ll see what we mean.
Most people think of West Yellowstone as a quick stopping point on the way to the park, but it's so much more. From the annual 4th of July parade to Shakespeare in the Park to the countless other events, not to mention the fantastic restaurants and Yellowstone Giant Screen Theatre, this little city is big on fun.
Bigfork turns into a winter wonderland at Christmastime, and everyone knows a summer day is best spent on the outdoor patio of The Raven. But this town has a lot going on anytime of year. Bigfork Brewfest, for example, is held every March and showcases the local microbrews Montana is now famous for.

Everyone knows Whitefish is an outdoor paradise in any season. But it also has a vibrant nightlife, all the amenities of a big city, and exciting events like the Whitefish Winter Carnival.

It's easy to fall in love with Big Timber -- it's charming, it's picturesque, and it has something for everyone. The rodeo at the end of June is always a good time, and the Thirsty Turtle Tavern is known for its live music as well as its amazing BBQ.

Livingston is a paradise for anyone who loves fly fishing and other outdoor adventures, but there's nothing like a walk through town on a long summer day. Between the art galleries, restaurants and museums, you'll never be bored.
You might think this little Eastern Montana city is the furthest thing from lively. But spend a little time at Cross Country Brewing or Wagon Wheel Bar and you'll change your mind. Considering Virginia City is a ghost town, you might think that lively would be the wrong word for it. But this quiet historic spot really comes alive in the summertime, when costumed characters wander the streets and the Virginia City Players perform their vaudeville acts daily.
Known as the Basecamp to the Beartooths, Red Lodge is full of character. The downtown area is always bustling with tourists who enjoy the shops, restaurants and entertainment. They host the Red Lodge Music Festival every June, and the Home of Champions Rodeo on the 4th of July has been praised by National Geographic as one of the best.
