1. Forsyth
You’ll find Forsyth in Rosebud County about 45 miles west of Miles City. If you make it, be sure to check out Forsyth Second Hand Store. Part thrift store, part curiosity shop, it has aisles of treasures you never knew you needed.
2. Cut Bank
If you’ve ever been to Cut Bank, you may have noticed a giant penguin statue. That would be the World’s Largest Penguin, which also happens to talk. The penguin is there to remind everyone that Cut Bank claims to be the Coldest Place in the Nation.
3. Fishtail
This tiny town sits on the banks of the West Rosebud River, and it has a lot of character. It also has the Fishtail General Store which has been carrying "a little bit of everything" since 1900.
4. Glendive
Those who call Glendive home are lucky—Makoshika State Park is one of the most uniquely beautiful parts of the state. You’ll also find the Glendive Dinosaur and Fossil Museum there, which isn’t what it seems. The museum features exhibits based on the idea that the Bible is an accurate, literal history of the world and that dinosaurs and humans coexisted.
5. Columbia Falls
The Montana Vortex and House of Mystery earns Columbia Falls a place on this list. This gravitational anomaly is a phenomenon at best and a lot of fun at "worst".
6. Ingomar
Even the (very) small handful of people who live in Ingomar will tell you there’s not a lot going on out there. But what they do have, the historic Jersey Lilly, is pretty special. The building was a bank from 1914-1921, but it’s been the Lilly since 1948. It’s now internationally known for its steak and its character.
7. Clinton
For 11 months out of the year, Clinton is a fairly quiet place. But every August, the Testy Fest at Rock Creek Lodge turns it into an eccentric (and very fun) place.
8. Utica
Utica was once a hangout for cowboys and headquarters for the Judith Basin Cattle Pool. These days it’s known for the Montana Bale Trail, and the annual What The Hay festival gets more creative every year.
