Living in Montana means adventure is never far away. And now that winter is on its way out, the cabin fever is strong in the Treasure State. If you’re feeling like going on a little excursion once the weather warms up, give one of these places a try.
Not only is this one of the oldest and most unique reserves in the state, but it’s a beautiful, scenic drive to get there. About 500 bison, elk, antelope, eagles and many other species of wildlife live at the refuge.
The largest island in Flathead Lake is only accessible by boat. If you make it, you’ll see incredible views and wildlife, including the handful of wild horses that still inhabit it.

Anyone near Helena, Butte or Great Falls will have easy access to Canyon Ferry Lake. Go fishing or swimming in the lake or enjoy a quiet weekend camping.
