M&M Bar And Cafe Is A Piece Of Living Montana History
Here in Montana, we know the importance of preserving local history — Montana has over 1,100 spots on the National Register of Historic Places. The 130-year-old M&M Bar and Cafe is definitely one of our most beloved historic treasures, having served the locals of Butte for well over a century, and for most of its run, 24 hours a day. In a city like Butte, which is rich in history, this place is right at home.

Sam Martin and William F. Mosby were the first owners of this place, which is where the name M&M came from. Although it has changed hands many times since, the name stuck.

And if you happen to be passing by and you're even the least bit hungry, you should stop in and see it for yourself.

From the get-go, this place was open 24 hours a day, serving breakfast all night long. The doors were never locked. One owner even threw away the keys.

We can neither confirm nor deny that liquor was still secretly sold in the back. The bar has also had some legal trouble, including raided by the Attorney General Marc Racicot for gambling violations in 1989. It has closed briefly a few times, but someone always finds a way to reopen it.

And while the place is no longer open 24/7, they do open daily at 7 a.m. and stay open late (10 p.m. on weeknights and midnight or 1 a.m. on weekends).

The food is tasty, but people also come for the ambiance. This entire place has been refurbished and maintains both a historic charm from the 1800s and a trendy 1940s Art Deco facade from its last major remodel.

The friendly team will serve you a hearty meal and a few rounds of drinks.
There’s no doubt about it, The M&M has some serious staying power.
