Every Montanan knows that some of the best things in the state are worth driving for. And while our cities like Missoula and Bozeman are known for their great dining options, it’s our more out-of-the-way eateries that often have the best food of all.
Fill up your gas tank and try these tasty spots.
1. Grizzly Bar, 1 Main St., Roscoe
The Grizzly Bar is definitely one of the most rural restaurants in the state. And for over 50 years, it has been a beloved Montana staple.
2. Land of Magic Dinner Club, Edit 11060 Front St., Logan
Land of Magic is located on the outskirts of Logan, a place where you probably won't get cell phone service... but you WILL get an amazing meal, especially if you order a famous twice baked potato.
3. Lolo Creek Steakhouse, 6600 Lolo Creek Rd., Lolo
For almost 30 years, the Lolo Creek Steakhouse has been a favorite stop for ranchers, hikers, bikers, snowmobilers and vacationing families, just to name a few. The steak dinners here never disappoint.
4. Outpost Deli, 824 N Main Ave., Choteau
It's tough to say what's better here, the classic stick-to-your-rib breakfasts or the sandwiches (like the Backpacker, which is Ham, Turkey, Corned Beef, Swiss and cheddar). We recommend trying both.
5. Li’s Chinese Restaurant, 1615 W Towne St., Glendive
Tasty, authentic Chinese food in Glendive? The food at Li's is awesome. so don't pass it up based on its unassuming exterior.
6. Beef N Bone Steakhouse, 19 Ulm N Frontage Rd., Ulm
Ulm is located about 12 miles from Great Falls, and you won't find much there - but you will find this delicious steakhouse that is definitely worth trying.
7. 3 North Bar & Grill, 8369 Hwy 3 N., Acton
You'll find a little bit of everything on the menu at 3 North, and it's all mouthwatering. People regularly make the drive from Billings, which has some great restaurants, to eat here instead.
8. Frontier Bar & Supper Club, 28904 US Hwy 2, Shelby
When you sink your teeth into your dinner here, you won't believe it came from this small, simple-looking restaurant located on the outskirts of Shelby. This is a true Treasure State gem.
9. Melrose Bar & Cafe Lively's, 120 Main St., Melrose
Blink and you actually might miss this charming little roadside bar, which you'll find about 30 miles north of Dillon. Patrons are often surprised when they stop by for a quick meal and realize how great the food actually is.
10. Yesterday's Calf-A, 2 Main St., Dell
Talk about going old school! This old schoolhouse turned restaurant is located in the tiny community of Dell, and many of the original details, like the chalkboards, have been preserved. Not only are the entrees here tasty, they also happen to have some of the best pie in Montana.
