What are some waterfall hikes in Montana?
If you love looking for waterfalls in MT, you are in for a treat. More adventure trails in Montana offer beautiful scenic views than we can count, but here are a few of our favorite waterfall hikes in Montana:
- Ousel Falls Road Trail, Gallatin Gateway, MT: If you are in search of some good MT waterfalls, the Custer Gallatin National Forest is the place to go. This 1.5-mile trail follows the South and West Forks of the Gallatin River with several scenic bridges to cross. One of the things we love about this waterfall hike is that you have several options to branch off the main trail to view the falls from the top, the base, and from a scenic overlook.
- Memorial Falls Trail, Neihart, MT: When you see the Lewis and Clark National Forest with a blue sky filled with white puffy clouds and the sunlight filtering over the treetops, you'll understand why we love this hike so much. The forest has over 40 miles of hiking trails to enjoy, but the hike to Memorial Falls is only about 1.2 miles in total. Along the way, you'll hit a smaller waterfall that is quite scenic, but the main attraction is just a little bit further.
- St. Mary and Virginia Falls Trail, Siyeh Bend, MT: If you are exploring Glacier National Park and you find yourself on Going-to-the-Sun Road, keep an eye out for this trailhead. The total trail is around 3 miles long (out and back). St. Mary's Falls is a beautiful two-tier waterfall that squeezes through a tall rocky crevice. Keep following the trail to reach Virginia Falls near the end of Virginia Creek. Both falls are absolutely stunning.
