If you’ve driven from Fort Benton to Havre on US-87, you may have unknowingly passed one of Montana’s quietest vacation destinations. The community of Virgelle sits right on the Missouri River, and it’s a hidden gem you’ll want to discover.

Virgelle was settled by homesteaders in 1912 along a spur of the Great Northern Railroad.

And while the town's boom was over by the 1930s, you'll still find plenty of historic cabins and a charming mercantile in the area.
The Virgelle Mercantile is the main remaining structure in this old abandoned town, and it's wonderful.

You'll find an antique store, B&B rooms, and rustic cabins for rent onsite.
The homesteader cabins look straight out of the past, and they've all been restored and preserved.
