Montana has 44 state parks, and summer is only three months long. And we hate to break it to you, but it’s already half over. You’ll find Placid Lake State Park on the tributary of the Clearwater River in the Seeley Lake area. The lake was named in 1892 by a New Yorker named Hiram Blanchard who named it after New York’s Lake Placid. For those who enjoy the great outdoors, it’s the perfect getaway. It’s just off the beaten path enough to avoid being constantly crowded. It’s not that the lake and campground aren’t popular places to be, and it definitely gets busy during the summer. But the area isn’t always as congested as some of Montana’s more popular parks.

The lake is clean and beautiful. You can fish for rainbow and cutthroat trout, whitefish, kokanee salmon and perch. The water is smooth and calm, so it’s perfect for water sports and kayaking. The boat launch is easy to navigate.
