It may be because we’re one of the largest states, or perhaps it’s because we’re a unique group of people… but for whatever reason, Montana has its own culture. We may not be the only ones in the country doing these things, but there are a few of our tendencies and behaviors that may seem odd to anyone who doesn’t call the Treasure State home.

1. We plug in our cars (and they aren’t electric).

It gets so cold in parts of Montana that if we want our vehicles’ engines to start in the morning, we have to plug them in to keep them warm.
2. We drive 80 MPH (and perhaps a bit faster) without thinking anything of it.

Who is old enough to remember keeping $5 bills in the console in case you got pulled over for "breaking" the non-existent speed limit?
3. We have renamed the four seasons: Winter, Almost Winter, Construction, and Tourist.

5. We have bull testicle festivals.

The Testy Fest is an amazing experience. Montana isn’t the only state to have them, but we definitely throw the best parties.

We’re not talking about middle fingers. Most born-and-raised Montanans still greet each other on the road to be courteous.
7. Depending on where we live, we leave our doors unlocked.

Many Montanans either live so far from town that would-be robbers can’t find them, and many more have neighbors who constantly look out for each other. Should you decide to rob us, see number eight.
8. We carry.

The majority of adult Montanans own guns they don’t leave at home. It’s just how we roll.
9. We wear short sleeves and shorts when most people wouldn’t.

10. We get annoyed when others don’t keep Montana a secret.

Most people laugh when we get annoyed by people bragging about how great Montana is. We just don’t want everyone to know, because then everyone would want to live here.
