There Are More Than 100 Historic Buildings In This Montana County

We love to preserve our local history here in Montana, and that’s why you’ll find so many century-old buildings and historic districts scattered around our state. And while you’ll find these treasures from the past everywhere you go, there’s one county in particular that has far more structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places than any other. In fact, when you add up all the old houses and cabins, hotels, bridges, fire lookouts, roads, bridges, and more, there are 147 places in Flathead County that make the list.
Flathead County is pretty massive, encompassing cities like Kalispell as well as parts of Glacier National Park.
It comes as no surprise that the Polebridge Mercantile would make the list. But it's actually part of an entire historic district called the W. L. Adair General Mercantile Historic District.
The Belton Chalets are a group of historic hotel buildings in West Glacier.
This Victorian era shingle-style Norman mansion was designed and built especially for Charles E. Conrad, a late 19th century shipping magnate and early Kalispell resident.
The Fisher House is another historic home in Kalispell that is more of a hidden gem.
It was built in 1892 for Reverend George McVey Fisher, a Presbyterian minister, and his wife and six children. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
