If you’ve ever eaten at a Brazilian steakhouse, you know how delicious it is — and how easy it is to overeat. But if you dine at Five on Black, you’ll be treated to much healthier Brazilian fare, and the food is downright addictive.
Five on Black now has locations in Missoula, Billings, and Bozeman, plus two in Colorado.
But the eatery was born right here in Montana when University of Montana student Tom Snyder won a business plan competition.
Tim's idea was simple: To bring a fast-casual Brazilian restaurant to Montana that served fresh, healthy food.
While there are plenty of similar chains, like Chipotle, no one had ever attempted the concept with Brazilian food. When he won, Tom took an extended trip to Brazil to learn more about the cuisine. Needless to say, the restaurant was an instant hit.
The food here may be served fast, but the meat is all slow-roasted.
And everything here is made to order, so you'll get exactly what you're craving.
When you order, you'll choose a base (white rice or brown rice), a protein, sides, and sauces.
These delicious bowls are just $6.50 for a small, $8.50 for a large.
If you're a vegetarian or need a gluten-free meal, Five on Black is a dream come true.
You can choose roasted grilled veggies instead of meat, and everything here is naturally gluten-free.
Whether or not you're watching your waistline, it's always nice to have a fresh, healthy meal.
Nutrition information is available on the Five on Black website, so you can be informed of exactly what you're eating.
About the name... Five on Black represents the five steps in ordering a bowl at the restaurant and black beans, which are the base of most Brazilian meals.
Every location is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. except Bozeman's, which is closed on Sundays. The company will also cater your private events.
Five on Black is definitely a welcomed addition to Montana. And here’s a list of eateries that serve more traditional ethnic food.
