It seems as if there are trendy new bars and restaurants popping up all over Montana. And while we think that’s fantastic, sometimes nothing tops drinking a cold beer and eating a big meal at an old-fashioned small-town bar and grill with cooks who don’t care how their food looks on Instagram. We don’t even think American Bar has an Instagram account… but if they did, it would be filled with photos of their two-headed calf.
This classic bar has been a local hot spot for over 100 years.
It was originally opened by two brothers, changing ownership a number of times over the years. Stockett was once a booming coal-mining town, but its population dwindled after the Gulch coal mines were shut down in 1946. Still, this rowdy bar survived.
