For The Best Teriyaki In Montana, Treat Yourself To A Dish At Dobi's
Teriyaki became a delicious staple in the United States when Japanese immigrants settled in Hawaii in the 1960s — but these days, it has strong ties to Seattle. Toshi Kasahara, a Japanese chef and longtime Seattle resident, opened Seattle’s first teriyaki joint in the 1970s, and the rest is history. And until recently, it wasn’t easy to find good quality teriyaki here in Montana… until Seattle native Bret Ferris moved to Missoula and had the good sense to open Dobi’s.

Brett Ferris started Dobi’s Teriyaki in 2014 after suffering from what he called "yaki withdrawals," and his food was so popular, he was able to open a storefront location.

And although there are numerous delicious restaurant options on Front Street, this place can certainly hold its own.

Teriyaki is a Japanese cooking technique where foods (most commonly chicken) are broiled or grilled with a glaze that typically consists of soy sauce, sake or mirin, ginger, and sugar.

All meals come served over a bed of rice with Dobi's homemade teriyaki sauce, which you can have regular or spicy.

Actually, we highly recommend doing this on your first visit. And if you're a vegetarian, you can still enjoy a meal here -- just ask for the veggie stir fry.

A small portion of chicken teriyaki is just $6, although you'll probably want the larger $10 serving.

Enjoy your meal onsite over a $2 beer, order takeout, or, if you're in Missoula, you can order delivery through Doordash.
