Out of over 700 lakes in Glacier National Park, only 131 are named, and some of them are downright impossible to reach in a day. Fortunately, Bowman Lake is easily accessible and we’re pretty thankful that it is. This enticing body of water is an underrated treasure.

In the summertime, many Montanans (and tourists) flock to Flathead Lake, Seeley Lake, or Lake Como — and here at Glacier, Lake McDonald is the most popular choice.

Bowman Lake is definitely a beloved spot, but if you go during the week, you'll probably miss the summer weekend crowds.
Bowman Lake is one mile wide and eight miles long, so you'll have plenty of freshwater shorelines to enjoy.

There's also a front country campsite at its head and a backcountry campsite at its base, just in case you love it too much to leave (and you might).
One of the best things about this lake is its location, which happens to be near the beloved Polebridge Mercantile.
