We sure do love our pie here in Montana, and we make no apologies for it. Pie is the signature dessert at many of our favorite places, but there’s just something special about savoring a freshly baked slice at a small town cafe.
If you’ve never heard of Shade Tree Cafe, you’re not alone. Not only is it located in a rural town of fewer than 300 people, but it also doesn’t have a website and has virtually no social media presence. But as we all know, sometimes those laid-back hidden gems have the best food… and this place is no exception.
You'll find Shade Tree Cafe on Broadway Avenue in the small, quiet town of Denton.
Naturally, it's a local favorite, and not because the locals don't have many options. Many a tourist passing by has stopped in and called this place Montana's best-kept secret.

Shade Tree Cafe serves breakfast until 11 a.m. daily, a mixture of delicious sweet and savory menu items.
The cafe's Facebook page lists their business hours as open daily, starting with breakfast at 7 a.m. (8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday) and closing at 8 p.m. most days. But since this is very much a small mom-and-pop operation, you may want to call before you go, especially if you've got a long drive for pie.
We’re so lucky to have hidden gems like this here in the Treasure State. Sometimes the Shade Tree Cafe lists their dinner specials or pie flavors on their Facebook page.
