The beauty of Montana has drawn celebrities to live here for decades. Many own ranches, mansions, or even just weekend places to enjoy away from the prying eye of the rest of the world. While it’s always fun to see who has chosen to call this state home, it’s even more fun to learn about the ones who hail from Big Sky Country. There are a surprising number of famous people from Montana, but today we’re focused on one who might be best known for his musical career.
The small town of Havre, located in Hill County, can be found near the Canadian border in northern Montana. It was founded in 1893 and went from a sleepy town to an important railroad center when trail operations came in.
While it's best known for being an important rail stop, it's also home to the Buffalo Jump Archeological Site and Fort Assinniboine, a late 19th-century Army installation. There are also a variety of Native American landmarks.
The town has a population of just over 9,000 people. While it's certainly one of the most historic towns in the state, it's also the birthplace of one of the most famous people in Montana.
Despite spending a great deal of his life on the road, he's always remained close to his home state.
In fact, one of the most important projects he's undertaken is building a skate park in any city in Montana that will allow one. He's built over 25 skate parks with more planned. The parks allow local kids to have an activity but also teach kids to get up when they fall down.
And we can't deny that it's pretty special to have him here.
Have you had any fun celebrity encounters in Montana? We’d love to hear who you saw and where you were!
And, if you’d like to experience a day in the life of Jeff Ament, make your way to Havre. There’s quite a bit to see in this small, historic Montana town.
