7 Of The Most Beautiful Fall Destinations In Montana
Feel that crisp mountain autumn air? The summer days are dwindling here in Montana, but the general consensus is that fall is a much, much better time to explore the state. The crowds tend to disperse, there are no hints of winter weather yet, and the fall foliage is exceptionally gorgeous. These are a few of the many wonderful places to spend a beautiful fall day in the Treasure State.

Montana's weather can be wildly unpredictable, but there are a few things we have come to expect. For example, every October, the entire Bitterroot Valley is adorned with colorful trees, making the entire valley look straight out of a movie.

While we never need an excuse to visit Fort Benton, we must admit that it looks absolutely fantastic in the autumn. And since winters aren't exactly tame in the Birthplace of Montana, we highly recommend you go before snow takes over.

We are of the opinion that every Montanan should visit Whitefish in all four seasons, as the area tends to experience each season to the fullest. A couple of years ago, NBC Today listed Whitefish as one of the best places in the country to see fall foliage. Come see if they were right (hint: they are).

Bigfork is surrounded by stunning nature including forest land that turns orange, red, and yellow by early October. Bigfork is one of Montana's top destinations for skiing and other winter sports, but don't rule out a fall visit.

The fall foliage spreads so fast in Missoula that it almost seems to pop up overnight. But not only is the surrounding area always rich and colorful, Missoula's city streets and neighborhoods are full of changing leaves, too.

The Flathead River winds from Glacier National Park to Flathead Lake. As you can imagine, it's exceptionally beautiful in the fall.

Do you tend to visit Glacier in the summer, or do you avoid it entirely to miss the tourists? Either way, we highly recommend you check it out in the fall and see all this beauty for yourself.
