Bannack State Park in Dillon is the site of Montana's first major gold discovery on July 28, 1862.

This once bustling "Old West" town is now a well-preserved ghost town. The park has over 50 original structures from the 1800s on site, including an old hotel and the governor's mansion.

Buried here are former residents from the 1800s, people who were passing through, and those seeking to strike it rich in the hunt for gold.
As one can imagine, when gold was discovered in Bannack, it brought about a gold fever that unfortunately became marked by highway robbery and murder.

Bannack's local sheriff, Henry Plummer, was actually the leader of the band of highwaymen, which was blamed for over 100 murders and countless robberies.

The gallows still stand at the park, and just up the hill is the Bannack Cemetery. It is home to many old tombstones, but none that mark Plummer's grave.

Many people report supernatural episodes when visiting the park.
