It’s no secret that Montanans absolutely love a good burger. It’s also no secret that we’ve got about 1,000 places to get one here in the Treasure State. That being said, the burgers — and the other menu items — you’ll find at Backcountry Burger Bar in Bozeman are truly remarkable. It’s really no wonder that even in this foodie-friendly city, this place can hold its own.

The eatery opened in 2017, taking over the space where the old John Bozeman’s Bistro had been.
Albert McDonald, who owns the Cannery District’s Pizza Compania and the Mint Bar in Belgrade with a few business partners, opened this place.

He wanted to keep the place fairly simple, offering great burgers and beers that were largely made with local Montana ingredients.
The burgers here can be quite massive, in both size and flavor.
