It’s amazing being a Montanan, but that doesn’t mean it’s always easy. We certainly experience our fair share of interesting situations and awkward moments.

1. Looking around a room of your friends and realizing you've dated nearly everyone, you know everyone's parents, and you all had the same third grade teacher.

2. Having to correct people's incorrect assumptions about Montana.

Yes, we have cars... and electricity... and even WiFi. There are still some people who believe Montana remains in the Dark Ages.
3. Mispronouncing some of our city and town names even though you live here.

4. Giving directions in minutes instead of miles and being met with blank stares.

Even spending a lifetime in Montana doesn't always prepare you for the fact that it sometimes snows in June... even on days that start out warm and sunny.

6. On that note... complaining loudly about the weather all winter (and spring) only to sort of miss it on the first truly scorching summer day.

7. Being too trusting and having it backfire.

Depending on where in Montana you grow up, you may leave your house and car doors unlocked, and you may be surrounded by a supportive and trustworthy community. Unfortunately not everyone is like that (including in Montana, of course). Unfortunately, some of us learn that the hard way, hopefully on a small scale.
8. When someone assumes you only listen to country music and asks you a bunch of questions you don't know.

9. Occasionally making headlines for the wrong reasons.

This doesn't happen as often to Montanans as it does elsewhere (but we're not naming names, Florida). But we're still sorry about that whole "Unabomber" thing, everyone.
10. When strangers (online or otherwise) ask you where in Montana they should move.

It can get awkward explaining that the 4th largest state in the country is, in fact, full.

Luckily, an awkward day in Montana is better than an average day anywhere else… probably because we live in the best state.
