Retrace The Footsteps Of Lewis & Clark On The Alice Creek Trail In Montana
If you’re lucky enough to live in Lewis and Clark County, you know what an incredibly beautiful area it is. And back in 1805, Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark thought so, too. They spent about five months exploring Montana during their expedition, and Meriweather Lewis himself crossed the Continental Divide on what is now the Alice Creek Trail #440. Hike this stunning trail yourself and retrace the footsteps of our history.

While you'll have several trails to choose from, if you hike the entire length of them, you'll have covered almost 10 miles.

If you haven't been for a hike in quite a while or you're a beginner, save this one for another time.

The trail has meadows of wildflowers in the summer, sweeping views, and, of course, lots of local history.

The Alice Creek Trail then comes to a junction with the Continental Divide Trail. Take a right and head for the open meadow.

The meadow is full of wildflowers all spring and summer.

And that makes the journey well worth it.

This is the perfect hike for someone who loves both a strenuous challenge and the sheer, unbridled beauty of Montana.
