Some of these spots are new, some have been around for decades, some offer fine dining, and some are casual — but they all serve incredible food.


Pompey's Grill is located inside the magnificent Sacajawea Hotel in Three Forks. They serve fresh steaks and seafood from purveyors who are mostly local, and it's fantastic. You can enjoy dinner here from Wednesday-Sunday.

The menu at Fieldhouse changes seasonally, so you'll have to go several times to truly appreciate it. But that won't be a problem -- once you take your first bite of burrata, burger, steak or other tasty morsel, you'll be hooked.


If Bozeman isn't the most foodie-friendly city in Montana, it's certainly a top contender. 14 North is especially loved by locals for its creative twists on classic cuisine.


Anyone who claims Montana doesn't have any good BBQ joints has clearly never tried this cleverly named spot. It just might be the best in the West, but if not, it's certainly a top contender.

Whitefish has plenty of options for fine dining. But for a nice, casual mean, you can't go wrong with Loula's. Located in the lower level of the historic Masonic Temple on the corner of 2nd Street and Lupfer Avenue, this charming cafe is always delightful.


Horn and Cantle defines rustic elegance. The goal is to offer Montanans an authentic local culinary experience with a unique perspective. Try the smoked elk meatballs and these delicious bison short ribs -- trust us.

Ask 10 Montanans where to find the best steak in the state, and you're likely to get 10 different answers. However, anyone who tries a steak from Ringling Bar will agree it's one of the tastiest you'll find anywhere.


Once an Anaconda gem, this Italian eatery recently relocated to Butte. Luckily, the food, which you can try Tuesday-Saturday from 3-10, remains as wonderful as ever.


The Knead has a little bit of everything you need: scrumptious pastries, massive sandwiches, salads, soups, and so much more. The ingredients are naturally raised and responsibly sourced, and they've got plenty of gluten free and vegan options as well. The Knead is open Tuesday-Saturday from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.

A word of caution: Once you try freshly made pasta, particularly the pasta made here, you may not be able to return to your old boxed noodle ways. However, we think having a meal at Blacksmith Italian is well worth that risk.


Spending some time at Flathead Lake this year? Make sure you stop in for dinner at this underrated eatery. Not only have they won local awards for their prime rib, but their seafood, chops, steaks, and flatbread are all top notch.
