From breathtaking hiking trails to picturesque springs, Missouri doesn’t run short on natural wonders. When living in Missouri, I highly recommend taking advantage of the beautiful Current River. The crystal clear waters offer a refreshing refuge during hot summer days. But during cool, fall days, the river’s beauty can still be enjoyed in the comfort of a canoe or kayak.
Our adventure starts at Akers Ferry Canoe Rental. There are a number of canoe rental shops along the river, but the Akers to Pulltite float trip would have to be my favorite.
Akers to Pulltite is a 10-mile trip and it's estimated to take anywhere from 4-6 hours. Make sure to bring some snacks along the way, you'll be happy you did.
The 184-mile Current River forms in the southeastern portion of the Ozarks and flows into northeastern Arkansas. Its regionally-known and brings visitors from all over the state and even outside of Missouri.
Along the trip, you'll float past large bluffs. Keep your eyes peeled about halfway through the trip, you'll be approaching something pretty spectacular very soon.
Be sure to check with the rental service about the status of the water. The higher the water, the larger the rapids are, which require a bit more skill when paddling.
And to think this is only one float trip, just imagine all the others! To see a map of the river with other canoe rental points, click here.
