Missouri is full of amazing towns outside of Kansas City and St. Louis. Their unique flavor is what makes our state so special. Here are a few of my favorites that I definitely suggest taking a day trip to in 2017.
1. St. Joseph
St. Joseph has an incredibly
unique history and visitors can tour the Pony Express Museum or see the house where the notorious Jesse James was killed.
2. Hannibal
Once upon a time, one of America's greatest authors, Mark Twain, grew up in this
small Missouri town . Today, visitors can go on tours of his childhood home and other places that inspired his novel, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."
3. Potosi
Visit Potosi...if you dare. This small town has a
haunting history and there has been reported paranormal activity at a few key spots in town.
4. Weston
Stroll up and down
Weston's main street for antique and boutique shops or sample delicious wines at Pirtle Winery. If you're feeling outdoorsy, head to Weston Bend State Park for an easy hike with beautiful views of the Missouri River.
5. Ste. Genevieve
History buffs will marvel at
Ste. Genevieve since it is considered to be the oldest town in Missouri. You'll notice some French Creole colonial architecture still preserved throughout town, hinting at the French-Canadian settlers who established this area.
7. Rocheport
Though the population is only 239 residents, this
town is full of fun and unique things to do. Take your bike or walk along the Katy Trail, then end the day with a glass of wine at Les Bourgeois Vineyards.
8. Arrow Rock
Arrow Rock is a tiny town loaded with history and attractions. During the 1800s, immigrants heading west passed through this town and often took a break at J. Huston's Tavern. That tavern is now considered Missouri's oldest functioning restaurant. If you're looking for entertainment, catch a play or concert at Lyceum Theater.
9. Sedalia
It really doesn't get anymore
Midwest than Sedalia . This charming town is a reminder of why we love living in the Midwest so much. From state fairs to an adorable main street, come visit Sedalia for a lovely time.
