For some, Waynesville, Missouri may seem like a drive-thru town. Populated with only 5, 073 people, you might think that this small town doesn’t have much to offer, compared to the likes of bigger cities. But that’s where our assumptions lose any validity. Waynesville has a thriving little downtown, but it also has something Kansas City and St. Louis don’t have; and that’s Nona’s Kitchen.
Nearly 2 years ago, Julie Harmon traded in her real-estate license for a restaurant license and took over Nona's Kitchen.
Nona's used to be an old house, until it was transformed into this adorable restaurant with finger-licking good American food. Call ahead, and she may even dress it up for a private event.
Now let's get to the food. The menu changes each month, depending on which ingredients are in season. Luckily for us, the shrimp po' boy remains as a permanent item on the menu, due to its popularity among regulars.
One of the latest menu items is the Route 66 Sampler. This includes a meatball slider, a pulled pork slider and a mini croissant with chicken salad. The pork is cooked overnight above a combination of white oak and hickory, giving it that smokey taste us Missourians know and love.
Leave some room for dessert, because the selection at Nona's is out of this world. Take these pumpkin spice rice crispies, for example. A unique and seasonal twist on a classic childhood favorite.
If you’d like to give Nona’s a try, you can find them at 103 N Benton Street in Waynesville, Missouri. For more information, check them out on Facebook or give them a call at (573) 774-2527.
