Summer in Missouri brings with it a whole lot of fun and long-time treasured traditions. Like the Missouri State Fair. It’s been a staple of summer since the beginning of the 20th century and has grown into an 11-day celebration of Missouri and its agricultural history. The fair promises a ton of family-friendly activities – from classic carnival rides to live entertainment.
The Missouri State Fair, an epic summertime event since 1901, returns to Sedalia for its 120th year from August 12-22, 2021. Festivities kick off with the Opening Day Parade on August 12 at 6 p.m.
Special events like the parade are planned throughout the fair. The Homegrown Singer Contest, for example, will be held throughout the 12 days with the preliminary rounds kicking off on August 12.
You’ll definitely want to take in some of the free shows, especially if you’re bringing the kiddos along. Sea Lion Splash and Puppies of Penzance will be performing, and there will be a special Kids Zone for the little ones.
That’s just the beginning of the fun that awaits. Be sure to check out the blacksmith demonstrations; meet Rock-It the Robot, and catch a performance of the Marshall Municipal Band.
A summer fair certainly wouldn’t be complete without classic carnival rides and food. The Midway Carnival will feature such popular rides as the Ferris Wheel and the merry-go-round.
The fair also hosts the AG Showcase, where you can shop for Missouri-made goodies; learn more about Missouri’s most popular plants and agricultural practices, and check out the exhibits.
