Though Walt Disney was born in Chicago, he spent most of his childhood in Marceline after his father moved the family to Missouri in 1905.

All of the Disney Parks feature a "Main Street USA" area. Colorful storefronts line the street filled with candy shops, hair salons and other general stores. Missourians will be proud to know that this globally known street was based off downtown Marceline.
While in Marceline, be sure to visit the Walt Disney Hometown Museum.

The museaum features an impressive collection of Disney-related artifacts, such as letters between family members, old photos, Micky Mouse dolls and a Midget Autopia car that came from an old ride at Disneyland.

Walt drew much of the inspiration for his animated characters from farm life back home. Disney felt such a strong connection to the barn, that he had it a version of it built near his new home in California for him to write in.
Inside the barn, visitors leave their mark by signing their name or leaving a note to Walt.

It was under this cottonwood tree that Disney and his sister, Ruth, would spend their days wading in the spring below it. Disney also used to sit under the tree and daydream.

Head over to Ripley Park to see a locomotive from the 1900s.

Disney was always fascinated with trains as a child and many of his early animations featured railroads. At Ripley Park, you'll find an old locomotive that Walt personally went to see when he visited in the 1950s.
To see where all the Disney magic began, a visit to Marceline is a must.

Often Mark Twain’s childhood town of Hannibal is talked about, but rarely do we hear about Walt Disney’s hometown, Marceline. If you’re a fan of any of the Disney movies or like learning about local history, I definitely recommend taking a trip to this magical town.
