Things in St. Louis have changed dramatically throughout the years. Laws that were created in our history many times remain on the books for years after they are useful. Here is a list of 10 laws that were valid for many years and some still valid today in St. Louis and the state of Missouri that include St. Louis. They are odd to say the least:
1. Hopefully, if you're a woman you sleep fully clothed...
because in St. Louis if you are a woman it is illegal for a fireman to rescue you unless you are fully clothed.
2. If you are enjoying a bucket of beer in St. Louis...
make sure you are not sitting on a curb because it is illegal to drink beer from a bucket while sitting on a curb in St. Louis city.
3. Make sure if you are moving to University City with your girlfriends...
you only have three. It is illegal for four or more women to live together as roommates.
4. If you see a milk man running and he is on duty...
the gig is up, call the police immediately! The act of a milk man running on duty is illegal in St. Louis.
5. There are many benefits to tying the knot fellas...
for instance you won't have to pay an annual tax of one dollar if you are between the ages of 21 and 50. If you are a single man in this age range you owe Uncle Sam one whole dollar at the end of the year.
6. If you live in University City and want to have a yard sale...
don't you dare put a yard sale sign in your yard!
7. Be careful what you send out to the curb in a trash bag if your child is handling garbage duty...
because anyone under 21 caught taking out household trash containing even a single empty alcohol beverage is guilty of illegal possession of alcohol in the state of Missouri.
8. Don't try and leave your car running while it's parked...
because it's illegal to leave your car running in Missouri due to the fact that it may scare the horses.
9. Are you always running late and frequently shave while driving?
Next time you plan on getting your shave on in the car, you better file for the proper permits. In Missouri shaving and driving requires a permit.
10. Last but not least, if you see a squirrel...
you are not permitted to worry about it in the State of Missouri, remember that.
So there you have it. Although some of these laws may be discontinued today, most are still active and all of them were active at some point in our history. What other crazy laws do you know about that I missed? Here are 10 more crazy laws in Missouri that will make you scratch your head in wonder.
