For a river city as old as St. Louis, we are long on ghost legends but short on actual ghost sightings. This list highlights some of the best places you might see a ghost and all are open to the public; either by paid tour or open park area. For this list to be complete, we had to cross both rivers to give you the most choices of ghostly haunts.
1. Lemp Mansion
Lemp Mansion might be the most famous haunted place in St. Louis. A former residence with a long tragic family history, the ghosts of the former mansion are said to still be lingering here. 2. The Fabulous Fox
Ghost tours at The Fabulous Fox Theater are held Mondays through the month of October. You'll learn about ghostly encounters and unexplained occurrences at the 88-year-old theater. The Fabulous Fox is located at 527 N Grand Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63103.
3. The Peabody Opera House
The ghosts found at the Peabody Opera House are apparently apparitions from other buildings torn down during the construction of the Peabody Opera House. Ghostly tours here are given by reservation only. The Peabody Opera House is located at 1400 Market St., St. Louis, MO 63103.
4. The St. Louis Paranormal Research Society Tours
The St. Louis Paranormal Research Society offers tours throughout the St. Louis area. Notable haunted places include the Lemp Brewery Bottling Plant, the lost cemeteries of Lemp Avenue, an overnight investigation of the Alton YMCA, and a one-time special ghost tour of the Old Court House. These tours take you deep into parts of buildings not often seen, and are sure to give you nightmares! 5. McPike Mansion — Alton, Illinois
Built in 1896, this former residence is under going massive renovations after decades of sitting empty. Ghostly encounters and strange occurrences have been reported throughout the years here. 6. The Piasa Bird
Created by Native Americas and shrouded in both mystery and caves, this area is said to be supercharged with supernatural energy. You can hunt the ghosts of the caves, past inhabitants, here anytime or on special ghost hunting tours offered through November 3. Piasa Park is located at Rt. 100, 1 mi. west of Alton Visitors Center, Alton IL 62002.
7. St. Charles Missouri Ghost Tour
On this St. Charles ghost tour, you will visit and learn the legends of The Lost Graveyard, try to catch the Lady in White, chase spirits of a canine nature, and much more. Tours are offered all year long and if you get a large enough group together, you can go at the witching hour!
