Are you looking for a getaway? Need something that is pure relaxation from beginning to end? Then you might consider a day trip along Highway 100 to the The Historic Stone Hill Winery in Hermann, Missouri. The drive is beautiful, the winery is amazing, and life moves a little slower here. Take a look below to see if this is the break you could use.
The drive is as beautiful as the destination.
At a little more than an hour and a half drive for most St. Louisans, this day trip is a perfect getaway. You can take either Highway 100 or Highway 64 out of the city. Both offer excellent views of Missouri's rolling hills along the drive.
You'll love the views of the Missouri River flowing past Hermann, Missouri.
The Missouri River doesn't get the attention the mighty Mississippi River does, but it should. It is actually the longest river in North America. Seeing the river flowing along town is incredible.
And the Old World winery charm when you arrive is breathtaking.
Clouded in the early morning fog, it’s so pretty it takes your breath away. Stone Hill Winery has been on this hill for more than 169 years. The winery was officially established in 1847 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
It’s all about the wine.
If you like sweet red wine, this Concord is full of flavor. Another seasonally offered sweet red wine is the Blackberry. Drinking it is like drinking blackberry cobbler.
By the glass or by the bottle, either way it goes down smooth.
If you love the wine here but just can't make the trip, Stone Hill Winery ships wine to most states.
The magic in the bottle all starts with the grapes.
In 2003, the state of Missouri declared the Norton Grape our official state grape. Who knew we had an official grape? In addition to award winning wines, you can also purchase non-alcoholic grape juice.
After a little wine you can visit the underground vaults.
Don’t worry, they offer guided tours. You won’t get lost down here and have to drink all of the wine to survive. Tours last about 30 minutes and take you through the vaults. Step up your game with a special VIP tour that takes you through the vineyards too. Each tour is followed by wine tasting.
If you're hungry, enjoy an authentic German lunch to balance out all of the amazing wine.
The sausage and sauerkraut with hot mustard is highly recommended. And dinner at Stone Hill Winery is always a great choice. But if you love pairing food and wine, then you might consider visiting during one of the Hermann Wine Trail events. They are held several times a year and offer a tasting at seven local wineries. Each winery prepares a food dish to pair with their wine. The menu and more information can be found

The winery has several award winning wines.
They don’t just create great wine; they make award-winning wine that's earned more than 4,000 awards since 1988. The Held family started restoring the winery in 1965. It's now a second-generation business. They now produce an approximate 300,000 gallons of wine each year. That's a lot of wine.
With amazing wine and great people, you may find it’s hard to leave.
If you want to spend a few days, then Hermann has you covered with ample hotels, inns, guest houses, and bed and breakfast choices. If you do plan to stay a few extra days you might check out the walking tours offered around town. They include self-guided tours, tours of the buildings of East Second Street, and challenging uphill tours of their famous hills. You can find more information
