We St. Louisans love our food and how it’s served. Committing any of these seven food faux-pas might make people question your judgement. We will for sure tell you how it should be served! Take a look below and see if you’re guilty of any of these:
1. Ordering your house Italian Dressing on the side.
Whether it’s Imo’s, Rich and Charlie’s, or Bill Gianino’s, the house dressing should be tossed into the salad before it’s served. Never on the side.
2. Eating anything but corned beef on St. Patrick's Day.
Everything, including our food, goes green on St. Patrick’s Day here in St. Louis. You’ll find corned beef being served at BBQ joints, Italian Restaurants and even some hot dog stands!
3. Not serving pork steaks at your holiday BBQ.
Pork steaks are a holiday barbecuing tradition here. Which holiday? All of them. If you are inviting people over and firing up the grill; pork steaks are a must.
4. Not drinking your beer ice cold.
Despite being the birthplace of many German-American beer companies; we don’t just like our beer cold. True St. Louisans like it ice cold , served in a frozen pilsner mug.
5. Six Flags without a turkey leg.
Going to Six Flags means at some point in the day you will be carrying around a turkey leg bigger than most Thanksgiving Day birds! Asking what is that will immediately have us ordering one for you.
6. Work day wings must be trashed.
Deep fried, tossed in sauce, then refried; trashed wings are a must for anyone wanting to return to work with a drip free shirt!
7. It’s just called pizza here; not thin crust.
Our pizzas are thin, cut into squares, and loaded with Provel. Ordering any other kind of crust is okay - if you must for out of town company.
These are just a few mistakes no St. Louisan should ever make. Have you seen a St. Louisan make a worse food faux-pas? Share the story with us!
