Although the sweet shop isn’t 100 years old, you’ll feel like you stepped back in time the moment you walk through the doors. One of the most iconic and historic town squares in the state of Missouri can be found in the town of Independence. The picturesque heart of Independence is over 100 years old and many of the adorable shops have a rich history as well. Clinton's Soda Fountain is the perfect place to spend time indulging you sweet tooth while learning a little more about Missouri's most historic town.
In 1898, Harry S. Truman secured his first job at Clinton's Drugstore at the age of 14. Even then the drugstore had a small soda fountain that attracted young folks down to the square.
90 years later, Clinton's re-opened as Clinton's Soda Fountain and featured a menu full of sweets. People fell in love with the historic charm and the delicious treats kept people coming back for more.
30 years later, Clinton's is still a place where time stands still. The antique bar, checkerboard floor, and old-timey decor will make you forget your actually living in the 21st century.
Clinton's is a great place for a quick and easy lunch. They have a small menu of soups and sandwiches that pair perfectly with a phosphate (essentially an old-fashioned soda pop).
Locally made Polly's Pop is also sold at Clinton's. Just like Clinton's the soda company was truly founded many years ago and has been resurrected for a new generation to enjoy.
