Remember when mom and pop shops were the norm rather than the exception? We could find them everywhere we went – from the big cities to the small towns. Well, today, we’re more likely to find big name stores with mom and pops often struggling to compete. But, we’re still lucky to have some of those old-fashioned shops in Missouri – like this shelled nut shop, which roasts its nuts on site, that is definitely a bucket list-worthy addition.
Mound City Shelled Nut Company, in St. Louis, boasts a rich history dating back to its debut in 1917.
And, you just might meet the owners, Bryon and Stacy, as you browse the shop that sells an assortment of salted and unsalted nuts - from natural almonds to peanuts.
But, that's just the beginning. Try some of the nut butters - pure peanut butter, pure almond butter, and pure peanut butter and semi-sweet chocolate. (All butters are made from Mound City's own nuts.)
