Missouri’s natural landscape promises plenty of hiking trails for those of all ages and experience levels. However, some of the more moderate and difficult hikes – generally recommended for those with some hiking experience – often offer spectacular rewards. Embark on this moderate to difficult six-mile hike in Missouri, for example, that’s dotted with shimmering pools and quaint waterfalls.
Nestled in Mark Twain National Park, Lower Rock Creek Trail spans just over six scenic miles.
Because the trail is not well-maintained and rather remote, you should find that it's typically not too busy, offering a serene backdrop to enjoy nature.

Make sure you've got a strong pair of hiking boots or shoes on before setting off, and carry plenty of water, especially during the hot summer months.
Lower Rock Creek Trail features a pink/orange blaze, which you'll see on several trees along the trail. However, some hikers recommend using GPS since the blazes can sometimes be difficult to see.
