As we move through the spookiest of seasons, many of us count down toward the most beloved of all autumn nights – Halloween. In the lead up to the spookiest day of the year, we have so many ways to spend a fall day in Missouri, including by visiting this one-of-a-kind event that celebrates the history of Halloween. If you’ve never been, put this straight at the top of your fall bucket list.
Celebrate the magic of Halloween with a visit to Legends & Lanterns, a beloved annual festival that draws Missourians from all over to the enchanting town of Saint Charles.
Even if your schedule is jam-packed this autumn, you have plenty of time to visit the festival that’s held the final three weekends, including the final Friday, of October.
Journey through the pages of time as you celebrate Halloween through the ages at Legends & Lanterns, which boasts a menu chock-full of fun for everyone in the family.
The fun begins even before the opening day of the festival with the preparation of Scarecrow Glen. During the festival, unique scarecrows line Main Street. Channel your inner artist, and make your own scarecrow.
Anyone can enter this scarecrow contest as long as you register by October 8 and drop off your scarecrow by October 14. You’ll get it back on November 1.
So many activities fill the calendar, including a horse-drawn hayride, that you’ll probably want to visit more than once. Join others for ghost stories at the First State Capitol, and embark on the epic Scaredy Cat Scavenger Hunt.
Listen to stories of the Brothers Grimm, and check out the schedule of events that delve into Halloween traditions; catch an old-fashioned monster flick, and learn all about poisonous and carnivorous plants.
