These tiny towns around Kansas City may be small, but they offer plenty of history and character to make up for what they lack in the population department. Don’t let their tiny size discourage you; sometimes you’ll find that a town with less people is a fantastic escape from big city life.
First up on the list is East Lynne, a tiny spot on the map with about 300 residents. Their name was taken from a novel of the same name written by Ellen Wood. The post office here has been in operation since 1871, so the town isn't quite as old as many in Missouri.
This little town has a great landmark that stands apart from others. It has a population of 447, and was named after Jeremiah Holt, who was one of its first settlers and donated much of the land here. Can you believe he came here all the way from Orange County, California?

One of the tiniest towns on this list, Rayville boasts a population of just over 200 people. It was named after Ray County, platted in 1871, and it has become so small that it actually disincorporated in 2012. However, there's still a town to explore here!

Edgerton is one of those towns you'll find yourself falling in love with. It has a population of almost 600 and was named after a railroad employee with a post office in 1871. Of course, nothing compares to exploring it yourself!

The tiny town of Mosby is the second smallest on this list, with a mere 190 residents. It was named after A. G. Mosby, the original owner of the site of Mosby's post office in 1887. It's no longer incorporated, but don't let that get you down! There's still plenty of hidden bits of history to find here.
Cleveland is a cute little town with almost 700 people and plenty to explore. It's been here since 1891, when it was originally platted as Maxwell. The name was changed soon after in honor of President Grover Cleveland.
Kingsville is a little town with about 300 people that has a lot of character. It's been here since 1856 and was named after one of the first settlers, General William King.
Our smallest town on the list, Turney has a population of about 147, and hasn't hit 400 residents since it was founded in 1895. It was named after a state politician, Thomas E Turney.

Polo is another tiny town with about 550 people, but it's been here since 1867. It was named after a city in Illinois, but the residents retain the Missouri charm we know and love.
