Will we get a real snow this year? We’re still not sure… however, the Kansas City area has a great place to hang out if we do see a few inches. This park is stunning year-round, but once the ground is covered in a blanket of snow, it’s a fantastic winter park that’ll leave you breathless. Let’s check out the views!
Today's destination is the ever-beautiful Powell Gardens in Kingsville, Misosuri.
The gardens have thrived since 1988, when Powell Gardens Inc. took over the land and created it as a non-profit charity, operating off of donations, admission, venue rentals, and gift shop sales.
While it's snowing and blowing, the park gets more and more beautiful, with glistening icicles and that special sparkle you only find on new snow.
The park boasts 970 acres of rolling hills, stunning gardens, and contemporary architecture. All through the season, they host events like their Festival of Lights (December 2017), holiday workshops, and chapel concerts.
The Marjorie Powell Allen Chapel was designed by Fay Jones, and it has been open since 1996. It can hold up to 120 guests, if you were to use it for a wedding. What a beautiful wedding that would be!
It's a stunning beacon of light when the sunset reflects off of the windows, and even brighter once the inside is lit.
However, overlooking the frozen lake and gazing at the chapel is only a small part of the beauty found here at Powell Gardens - you'll just have to visit to appreciate how many amazing features await!
Here’s a handy map to help you find your way, or just look them up at 1609 NW US Hwy 50, Kingsville, Missouri. Happy travels!
If you’re excited about the season and need somewhere to pump up your holiday cheer before the snow comes in, check out this Christmas Lights road trip that’ll keep you busy for a while with the best lights we have to offer.
