Some things are avoidable, like eating raw chicken or not driving drunk. However, there’s a few precautions you should take in Kansas City to avoid some possibly deadly situations. Everything from spiders to road hazards can kill in some instances, right? Here’s a list of 13 things in KC that just might kill you… if you give them the chance.
They might not take us by surprise anymore, but that doesn't make them any less deadly. It helps that we don't get them too often up here, too.

Okay, we may be exaggerating, but sometimes the humidity makes us feel like we're dying. Have you ever opened a car door in the middle of summer? To be fair, oppressive heat and humidity do increase the risk for heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Not necessarily the restaurants themselves, but the heart disease affects many Kansas Citians every year, and many of our favorite dishes aren't exactly "diet friendly."
Going without power may lead to hypothermia, but sometimes falling trees can crush your house, prevent you from leaving, or cause a fire. Yes, even in an ice storm.
I don't think this one needs explaining, but many Kansas Citians smoke, and it's doing nothing good for our health.

As of 2017, homicides and shootings are unfortunately on the rise in KC. It's hard to avoid violent crime, but common sense goes a long way.

Missouri has several species of rattlesnakes, but copperhead snakes are also a possibility. You don't want to run into these guys, and if you do... get out of there quick!
These spiders won't necessarily kill you immediately, but you should still get any bites checked out by a doctor as soon as possible. A brown recluse bite can cause severe infections and tissue death, while a black widow can cause seizures or worse, so don't wait until morning to get it checked out.
Whether it's someone from out of town or a high speed chase (rare as it is), you should still watch out for crazies on the road.
Avoiding crazy drivers is one thing, but becoming one is another. To be fair, I think finding a spider in your car (where you're trapped) is definitely an excuse to panic a little. Just a little.
