Sometimes, you move to a new city and have to quickly learn to their way of operation. You could fight the flow, but it’s not going to be an easy fight. Here’s a few tips and tricks that should help you out when you’re just moving to Kansas City.

1. We have crazy weather sometimes, but don't let the locals exaggerate.

For the most part, it's your run-of-the-mill seasons, except you do a coin-flip to see if there will be snow this winter or slush.
2. The traffic really is that bad most of the time.

High traffic times are the same as any city, except they seem to get longer and longer, merging into one "just don't drive during the day" time slot.
3. KC Kansas isn't all that different from KC Missouri.

We'd like to pretend that the dividing line between us is a physical marker, but there are so many suburbs, totalling around 2 million people in the KC metro area that you never know who you're meeting.
4. Mosquitoes don't spare cities either.

Neither does the sun, so make sure you wear both sunscreen and bug repellent when traveling anywhere outdoors.
5. You'll never get used to the number of restaurants.

If you picked one a day, there are enough barbecue restaurants to last you almost a whole year... and that's just the barbecue.

6. We don't really care that we have a World's of Fun.

It brings in a lot of tourists and gives some of us a summer job in our teens, but for the most part, it's just another feature we don't make a big deal about.
7. The drive to Denver is a long and mostly boring one.

Besides some stellar sunsets, there's not much to see on I-70, unless you like open fields and windmills.
8. You really, really shouldn't swim in the Missouri River.

It's gross, to be completely honest. Not just in a murky way, but there's also a good risk of infection or illness that goes along with a swim in these waters. It looks great in photos, though!
9. There's plenty of history at every turn.

We have museums all over the place, with historic markers and districts filling the gaps between them. You'll find that you're always able to learn more about our wonderful city.
10. We don't need beaches to have a good time.

A beautiful lake is just a couple hours away, or you can take the drive to the Ozarks and make a whole vacation out of it. Unless you're a pro surfer, you probably won't miss the sea with how much we have to do here.
11. Once you're here, you'll never want to leave.
