This little overlooked town runs just north of Kansas City and often gets left out when it comes to tourism in the area. It’s only about half an hour running north on I-29, but what are you missing out on? This small town with nearly 3,000 residents is full of character as well as a few fun things to do while you’re there. Let’s take a look!
Welcome to Platte City, where you’ll feel like you’re welcomed as soon as you arrive. It’s got such a small-town vibe that it’s impossible to feel crowded anywhere. It really is a relaxing change from the normally busy areas of the city.
The small town is filled with history, with roots tied to eastern states and dedicated settlers moving west.
It was founded by Zadock "Zed" Martin in 1893, but the town was leveled by a Union Squad, including the courthouse. Today, a gorgeous replacement stands in its place.
Jesse James even planned to rob the bank here, but it was never carried out.
Jowler Creek Winery is a great place to tour, as it's Missouri's first Green winery. They use sheep on their grass, chickens for bugs, and solar power to make the wine itself. They've got 6 acres of vineyard, and 9 award winning wines!
If you're less of a wine person and more of a latte person, this is a great place to be. They make a variety of baked goods to complete any morning or afternoon adventure, from cupcakes to turnovers.
A great place for lunch is Maria's, where you'll find hearty Mexican food by the plateful.
