The One Town Near Kansas City That's So Perfectly Midwestern

What does it really mean to be Midwestern? Some say if you bump into them and they say “ope,” that’s all you need to confirm it. Sometimes you can see the Midwest in a person directly, but other times it’s spread around town like whipped cream on pie. This town near Kansas City is the perfect little Midwestern hot spot we all love to visit.
Leavenworth is a town full of rich history and plenty of older-style buildings.
It was given to the city by the Boy Scouts of America, who are responsible for hundreds across the U.S. just like this one. They dedicated it as a pledge of everlasting fidelity and loyalty, which is what Leavenworth is all about.

Fort Leavenworth holds a statue of General Ulysses S. Grant, another of history's greats.
It's the final resting place of hundreds of armed forces members over the years, who gave their lives for our liberty and freedom. The perfect rows of white headstones lead many to spin ghost stories, but we know it's a peaceful place of reflection.
Very popular with kids and adults who are kids at heart is the C.W. Parker Carousel Museum.
It's home to the oldest still-operating carousel which was last ridden in the 20s, though you can watch it spin right here in the museum. Of course, there's also a working, rideable carousel for anyone who still loves those beautifully carved horses.
It's a town filled with great people, but also great places to eat.
Restaurants like Tenpenny, Retro Diner, The Depot, Homer's Drive In, and All Slabbed Up are all perfect picks for any eater. I've also heard great things about Pullman Place, if you still haven't decided on dinner yet. Why not give it a try?
Of course, being Midwestern is never really a bad thing. In fact, many of us would embrace it wholly without any issue.
