When you live in a city as beautiful as Kansas City, it’s no wonder that we love the holidays so much. Not only does the Plaza come alive with extra shoppers and plenty of lights, but the city itself has a whole host of events to commemorate the winter season and its holidays. These 9 Christmas events and traditions make our season even better. For some, they’re even necessary to feel like you’re from Kansas City at all!

What began in Kline's in 1936 is now a city-wide tradition among kids of all ages. The creators of the Fairy Princess were Jewish, and instead of Santa, they decided to celebrate the winter season without a specific holiday stated. Thus, the Fairy Princess was born! In 1986, the KC Museum picked up the tradition to keep its magic alive.

If you haven't taken a photo with the tree yet, are you even from here? All jokes aside, the area is beautifully decorated and ice skating here is much more special than your average indoor rink.

One year, local KCS employees noticed that some of the local kids weren't getting the Christmas they deserved. So, with that idea in mind, the Holiday Express was born! Donations to this charity are sent to the Salvation Army to provide winter coats and other essentials to local children in need.
