If you were thinking of packing that pbnj for lunch tomorrow, just leave it at home. Forget all your meal plans for just one day and live a little. These 13 food trucks in Kansas City are just the best, and you should pick one to try for yourself. Check their locations on social media, and go chase them down! In no particular order, here’s today’s lineup:
1. Anousone's Mobile Cuisine
Laotian food is a special experience to be had, and this truck doesn't skimp on the spice either. Chicken wings and sticky rice are staples if you've never had Laotian before, but just as a warning, the food may be spicier than you're used to.
2. Bochi
If you've never had stuffed chicken wings, you'll definitely have to grab some here at Bochi. They come in three awesome flavors, alongside some awesome coleslaw. You'll just have to try it to understand!
3. Cajun Cabin
If you have any love for gumbo or jambalaya, you should find this truck and order some right away. They also cater, so if you fall in love, you can always meet them halfway at your next party.
4. Detroit Coney
Come get your coneys here! They're a great price for something that fills you up at lunchtime, and you can expect the style of Detroit in every coney.
5. El Tenedor
This food truck is one of my favorites, with delicious items like the paella, albondigas (meatballs), and empanadas. Spanish food is served perfectly here, with little to no wait time in between customers.
6. KC Pinoy
Filipino food should excite anyone who loves garlic or chicken, because they both have a welcome home in this truck. Garlic rice is a staple for any first-timer, and no matter what, you've got to try the pogi plate.
7. Monk's Roast Beef
Poutine fries in Kansas City? Of course! It pairs perfectly with the roast beef sandwiches offered. If you've only ever had Arby's, then you really need to try this truck!
8. Pigwich
While the name makes you think of a swine in a pointy hat, I can assure you that image won't stick once you've tasted their food! Whether you opt for the pigwich itself or a burger, you'll find that both are juicy and amazingly flavorful. On Tuesdays they also serve a brisket sandwich that'll send your tastebuds on their very own honeymoon.
9. Plantain District
Though this truck closes for a couple months a year, you'll definitely have to catch it when it's operating. Their best seller is their Cubano, but the other menu items (like their Ropa Viejo with rice and beans) are perfection as well.
10. Red Wattle
Everything from the KC Cheesesteak to the Whole Hog is delicious. The photo above is a sandwich called The Whole Porkin' Thing. If you get fries as a side, however, you've got to try their cheese sauce!
11. The Pie Hole
Meat pies! Come get your meat pies! You'll start stalking this food truck after tasting one of their warm, flaky pies. My personal favorite is the Swagger Daddy, if you're looking for a recommendation!
12. The Waffler
Okay, so this truck is less of a meal and more of a snack or sweet treat, unless you order the Chicken and Waffles, (which you should!). All I can say is that if you see this truck, stop for a waffle!
13. Wilma's Good Food
Sometimes an eatery with such a straightforward title ends up being less that you expected. However, that's not the case at Wilma's! The mashed potato balls are an experience I wish everyone could have, alongside a meatloaf slider. In all honesty, it's worth a stop just to try a different menu item each visit!
