Kansas City and the surrounding area is arguably the best place in America. Of course, no place is perfect, and even with all of our fantastic attractions, tasty restaurants, and beautiful outdoor activities, there are still a few troubles that come along with life here (beyond simply surviving a scorching Midwest summer). These are some of the biggest risks of living here, but don’t let that keep you away. All in all, they are pretty tame compared to other places!
There's plenty of room for bugs in the endless greenery both inside and outside of Kansas City, so don't forget to spray. Mosquitoes might leave you itchy, but ticks are more likely to spread disease!
Just looking at this photo makes me want to call for a professional to spray right now. Of course, living anywhere in the Midwest makes you susceptible to these deadly little critters.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the leading killer in Missouri, so make sure you're balancing everything out! Don't eat like a king every day.
Deer jumping in front of your car isn't only limited to the countryside, it does happen in and around town as well. Just be careful and watch out for eyes and white tails!
One of Missouri's top concerns is meningitis, which is a pretty dangerous ailment. Keep your eyes peeled, your hands washed, and stay away from anyone coughing, just in case.
Missouri has a few species of venomous snakes, so when you're out on a peaceful nature hike, keep your eye out for the creatures that call it home. Remember: you're on their turf!
We don't see a ton of tornadoes in the KC area, but it's always good to be cautious. Plus, flooding and ice storms are often more deadly than twisters!
Humidity is something we'll all have to deal with, especially in the summer. Unless of course, you stay inside the whole time... and what's the fun in that?
Living in a large metropolitan area doesn't come without its drawbacks. Violent crime (or even nonviolent crimes like theft) are more likely to happen to you when you live somewhere as densely populated as we are.
With more people living here, there's more people on the road. Sometimes accidents are unavoidable, but for the most part, we think it's going to happen sooner or later.
Hopefully, you’ll only see some of these things occasionally… but some are just inevitable. Stay safe and prepared!
On a happier note, here’s a weekend getaway that you’ll absolutely love!
